KIUT Develops New Qualification Requirements for Lift Engineering
As Uzbekistan's cities continue to expand vertically, the growing number of high-rise buildings is driving demand for qualified engineers capable of designing, installing, and maintaining modern elevator and escalator systems. Kimyo International University in Tashkent (KIUT) has taken an important step toward addressing this demand by developing new qualification requirements for a bachelor's degree programme in Lift Engineering.
The qualification requirements were developed in cooperation with Tashkent University of Architecture and Civil Engineering, Jizzakh Polytechnic Institute, Expert Elevator System LLC, Modern Elevator Group LLC, and the state institution responsible for industrial safety.
The development process focused on the practical needs of employers and the evolving demands of the industry. Modern elevator systems combine mechanical engineering, electronics, automation, digital control, and safety technologies. As a result, the sector requires specialists with multidisciplinary engineering knowledge and hands-on experience.
A 240-ECTS curriculum has been developed for the programme, combining theoretical education with practical training. In particular, the eighth semester includes a continuous 15-week professional internship, allowing students to gain valuable experience in a real industrial environment.
One of the programme's key strengths is the direct involvement of elevator industry companies in shaping its qualification requirements. This industry-driven approach helps align academic training with workplace expectations, strengthen students' professional competencies, and prepare graduates for future employment.
As urban development accelerates, the reliability, energy efficiency, and safety of elevator systems are becoming increasingly important. Training qualified engineers in this field is therefore essential not only for the construction industry but also for manufacturing, infrastructure development, and technical maintenance services.
Through this initiative, KIUT aims to strengthen cooperation between higher education and industry while contributing to the development of Uzbekistan's skilled engineering workforce in the field of lift engineering.
