Children Learn Through Play: US Professor Introduces Innovative Teaching Methods at KIUT
Play is more than just entertainment. It helps children develop thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills. But how can educators turn play into an effective learning experience?
This question was at the heart of two practical workshops held on October 21 at Kimyo International University in Tashkent (KIUT), led by Dr. Shin Ji Kang, Professor at James Madison University (USA).
With 20 years of teaching and research experience in early childhood and primary education, Professor Kang shared contemporary educational approaches with KIUT's future teachers.
The first workshop, titled “Play-Based Learning: How Children Learn Through Play & How Teachers Support Learning,” explored how play contributes to children's development and how educators can create meaningful learning opportunities through playful activities.
The second workshop, “Student Agency in Action: Empowering Learners through Voice, Choice, Questioning & Reflection,” focused on encouraging students to think independently, ask questions, make choices, and reflect on their learning.
Both sessions featured interactive activities, practical exercises, and discussions, allowing students to experience these teaching methods firsthand.
The visit marked another step in strengthening academic cooperation between KIUT and James Madison University through international knowledge exchange and professional development.
