Can Tourism Be Learned Entirely in the Classroom?
A good tour guide needs more than historical knowledge. The ability to tell engaging stories, plan effective routes, and create memorable experiences for visitors is equally important. These skills are best developed through practice.
On October 11, Tourism students from Kimyo International University in Tashkent (KIUT) took part in an educational field trip to Samarkand as part of their Tour Guide and Tour Operator course.
During the visit, students explored Registan Square, the Gur-e-Amir Mausoleum, the Shah-i-Zinda complex, and other historical landmarks, gaining practical insights into tour guiding, excursion management, and itinerary planning.
Why does this matter? Tourism professionals do more than introduce visitors to historical sites. They design meaningful, well-organized, and memorable travel experiences.
Following the trip, students will analyze their observations and apply what they have learned to develop their own tourism itineraries.
